China's MIIT Predicts CDMA Subscribers to Hit 160 Mln by 2010

According to statistics recently released by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), formerly known as the MII (Ministry of Information Industry), the number of Chinese CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phone subscribers is estimated to reach 160 million by 2010, up from 43 million as of May 2008, South China Morning Post reported on July 10. The MIIT also predicted that, within five years, CDMA subscribers will account for 40% of the overall mobile phone subscriber base in China, while the shares of TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Ac) and WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) subscribers are put at 20% and 40%, respectively, also according to South China Morning Post.
